Doctor Who, for now

TardisI just got back two days ago from visiting my parents for a long Christmas vacation. You would think I’d have found time to update my Web site or at least add to my blog during all that time. But no. I just relaxed. I cooked a lot. (My made-up squash/mushroom soup was a real hit.) We played Scrabble a lot. I was particularly proud of “ATELIER.” It didn’t get me many points, but used up most of my letters. Mom, Dad and I saw “Sherlock Holmes.” Later, Dad and I saw “Avatar.” We also watched a lot of “Doctor Who,” including the big “End of Time” finale ending David Tennant’s reign. Exciting for me, since I don’t get BBC America.

This was not the blog entry I originally intended to write. Last night I spent a long time looking at the Web site for the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and then the one for the Herb and Dorothy Vogel Collection of minimalist and conceptual art, in preparation for a blog entry about our visit during my vacation to the OK City museum (more…)

Ideas, ideas, everywhere (and water, too)

Last night it finally stopped raining, after drizzles and even downpours most of the week. It’s supposed to start up again tonight.

At one point, sitting here looking at the drops run over my skylight, I suddenly remembered this Ray Bradbury story that was in our reading books around sixth grade. (It’s called “All Summer in a Day.” I had to look that up on Wikipedia.)

The characters in the story–all around age 7–lived on Venus, where it only stopped raining for an hour every seven years. So, of course, these kids had never seen the sun, except for one girl who was an immigrant from Earth. She talked about the sun all the time.
