Oh, the photo is of a crucifix that stands on the side of a bridge in Cesky Krumlov, a medieval town I stayed in when I visited the Czech Republic in 2007. The building in the background used to be a convent, centuries ago. I was looking for something in my photo files that had something to do with my post, and I figured Christ certainly did!

I like the way you describe Christmas as two distinct “days”. That is the way it is in this modern, secular age.

Sometimes I sit back and think, “If my 14-year-old self met my present-day self, she’d think I was pretty cool.”

Yes, I think I am much the kind of person I always wanted to be. I thought I’d have more fiction published by now–but I’ve traveled, been an editor, made art, done many of the things I always imagined.

We’ll see what happens next.

They aren’t going to publish the story as a result of the contest, so I have to submit it to some magazines. In the meantime, I can send you the story privately. (If I publish it on my website, some venues consider it already published and then won’t accept it in a more traditional publication …)

I’m sure you’re right, Dad, about why they say “uptown.” It just sounds strange to an outsider!

The nearest station is Sharon Road West–about a 10-minute drive. I can drive there, park the car at a big lot, and take the train the rest of the way in. Unfortunately there is not a station near enough for me to walk to.

That’s a nice looking station. How far is the nearest station to your apartment?

On a map it looks like a lot of Charlotteons live south of the central town area. Since “up” usually denotes north, to many Charlotteons, the central town area is “up town”; north of where they live. [possible explanation]
